How do I sign up for SDFair Wi-Fi service?

There are two ways to connect to Wi-Fi Service:

  • Activate your computer’s wireless connection and start an Internet browser, a portal/splash page will appear with various service plans on a daily or weekly basis. Use your credit card to buy the service plan of your choice. This is recommended for short term users. Click here for detailed instructions.
  • For long term users who need a more reliable bandwidth connection, you can sign up for Surf and Turf’s RV extension plan. This plan uses a device called a bridge to provide a reliable and constant link. The form to purchase this service can be picked up at the office, or if you have access to a printer download the form from the Surf and Turf web site. The form can be downloaded from the site using method 1) above. You do not have to purchase service to download the form. Click here to download the sign-up form.

What can I use Wi-Fi network for?

The SDFair Wi-Fi wireless connection will allow you to do anything you'd do from home or the office. You can surf the Internet, check your e-mail, access your Corporate network via a VPN connection, play online games, update your blog, and connect to social websites such as Facebook / MySpace.

What are the fees for accessing the Wi-Fi service?

The fees for the Wi-Fi service are $36.99/Weekly, $59.99/Monthly, $49.99/Monthly (Discounted rate with a 3 Month minimum purchase).

A Wireless bridge device will be supplied for this service which will require a one-time $30 fee as well as a fully refundable fee of $100.

What is a Wireless Bridge Device?

A Wireless Bridge acts as a wireless access gateway, providing reliable connectivity to outdoor Wi-Fi networks. The bridge connects to the Ethernet interface port of your laptop or desktop computer. An Ethernet cable is included for this purpose.

What equipment do I need to access the Wi-Fi network?

A standard laptop or desktop computer either PC or MAC device equipped with a standard Internet browser (IE6 or higher, Firefox, Safari) and has a standard Ethernet port

What Bandwidth speeds can I expect?

You should see download speeds of approximately 1mb/sec down and 768Kb/sec up. There are no guarantees on speeds and the service is a best effort service. Depending how far away from an access point or how strong a wireless signal may have an impact on your speeds.

How secure is the network?

The wireless network connection is protected for your security using WPA encryption techniques.
